O ministro das Relações Exteriores, Mauro Vieira, participou nesta terça-feira, 7, de uma reunião bilateral com representantes do Uruguai. Ao lado do chanceler do uruguaio Francisco Bustillo, o dirigente da pasta internacional anunciou obras físicas que serão feitas entre os dois países, defendeu a modernização do Mercosul e um trabalho em conjunto pelo avanço no acordo comercial entre o bloco regional e a União Europeia.

Vieira destacou que os temas tratados no encontro são de grande importância para a relação bilateral entre os dois países, envolvendo obras de interesse conjunto e projetos para desenvolvimento da região de fronteira. Em leitura da declaração conjunta, ele informou que será lançada nas próximas semanas uma licitação de projeto, acompanhada de estudo ambiental, para dragagem da hidrovia Uruguai-Brasil, que deve ser iniciada ainda este ano.

O ministro também afirmou que em 30 dias será feita assinatura, entre ministros correspondentes dos dois países, do acordo de binacionalização do aeroporto de Rivera. O Ministério dos Transportes do Brasil também abrirá em 60 dias, prorrogáveis por mais 30, uma licitação para construção de nova ponte sobre o Rio Jaguarão, que marca um trecho da fronteira do Uruguai com o Brasil. A expectativa é de que o contrato seja assinado ainda este ano.

Vieira também anunciou que o Uruguai retomará os preparativos para a reforma da Ponte Internacional Barão de Mauá, que foi reconhecida como patrimônio cultural do Mercosul. A ponte faz travessia entre as cidades de Jaguarão, no lado brasileiro, e Rio Branco, no lado uruguaio. Os dois países anunciaram a criação de um grupo de trabalho para avançar nos projetos firmados.

O ministro da Fazenda, Fernando Haddad, o ministro de Portos e Aeroportos, Márcio França, e o ministro dos Transportes, Renan Filho, também participaram do encontro.

Vieira declarou ainda que os dois países vão reativar mecanismos de consulta e coordenação política bilateral de alto nível. Ele destacou que Brasil e Uruguai têm responsabilidade de impulsionar o atual processo de modernização do Mercosul e disse que ambas as nações trabalharão para avançar no acordo comercial entre o bloco regional e a União Europeia.

Ele também defendeu a concretização de outros acordos do Mercosul com outros países, em equilíbrio ao bloco.

O fortalecimento do Mercosul é uma das prioridades da agenda externa do presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. O Uruguai tem sido visto, no entanto, como uma ameaça aos pilares do bloco regional. No ano passado, o país vizinho anunciou que pretende conversar com a China para adotar um acordo de livre-comércio, na contramão das prerrogativas do Mercosul, que determinam que acordos do tipo sejam negociados em bloco – como ocorre com a União Europeia.
