SALVADOR, BA (FOLHAPRESS) – Em pouco mais de um mês, 80 milhões de abelhas foram mortas em cidades da Bahia após uso ilegal do agrotóxico Fipronil. Ribeira do Pombal (a 288 km de Salvador) foi o epicentro da mortandade, que atingiu cerca de mil colmeias de 32 apicultores, segundo dados da Cooarp (Cooperativa de Apicultores de Ribeira do Pombal).

Problema idêntico foi registrado no último mês em Mato Grosso, estado no qual ao menos cem milhões de abelhas morreram por conta do uso indevido do Fipronil, lançado por avião agrícola em uma fazenda de algodão de Sorriso (a 420 km de Cuiabá).

O agrotóxico foi apontado como causador das mortes conforme os resultados iniciais de exames laboratoriais feitos em duas amostras. Até o momento, segundo José Carlos Santos da Fonseca, presidente da cooperativa, outras amostras foram armazenadas mas ainda não foram enviadas para testagem.

“Nosso objetivo era fazer o máximo de testes possíveis, mas o governo do estado disse que ia assumir a responsabilidade. Eles pediram para a gente armazenar o material coletado até eles resolverem a parte burocrática. Se isso não for feito até esta semana, vamos tomar outras providências”, disse.

Em comunicado no último dia 5, a Secretaria de Desenvolvimento Rural informou que as amostras coletadas estavam sendo enviadas ao Laboratório do Instituto de Tecnologia de Pernambuco e ao Centro Tecnológico Agropecuária do Estado da Bahia. A secretaria não respondeu se há um prazo para os resultados ficarem prontos.

A escalada de casos teve início em 19 de junho, quando uma apicultora procurou a cooperativa informando a morte de abelhas em suas colmeias. “Fomos recebendo diariamente as mesmas queixas de diversos apicultores”, diz trecho de comunicado da cooperativa enviado à Câmara de Ribeira do Pombal.

Até quarta-feira (26), foram contabilizadas mil colmeias perdidas de 32 apicultores, sendo oito de Nova Soure, três de Cipó e, o restante, de Ribeira do Pombal.

A estimativa de 80 milhões de abelhas leva em conta a existência de 80 mil abelhas por colmeia, com prejuízo financeiro de cerca de R$ 800 mil. Em Mato Grosso, o cálculo foi feito com ao menos 170 mil abelhas por colmeia nesta época do ano.

“Aqui é comum o uso de trator para aplicar os agrotóxicos. Eles colocam uma pipa de mil litros e tem um jato que dissipa o líquido em torno de 15 metros de distância. Outras propriedades direcionam apenas ao chão, mas a maioria é aberto, despeja para o chão, lados e o vento vai levando”, afirmou o presidente da cooperativa.

De acordo com a Agência de Defesa Agropecuária da Bahia, desde 2021 o estado teve três episódios de mortandades de abelhas causadas pelo Fipronil, em Eunápolis, Entre Rios e Santa Brígida. Não foram reveladas as quantidades de abelhas mortas nesses casos.

Neste ano, houve ainda outras oito notificações de mortandades de abelhas na Bahia, mas sem diagnóstico laboratorial. A agência informou também que está fiscalizando propriedades rurais suspeitas de serem responsáveis pela aplicação de agrotóxicos. Ninguém foi punido até o momento.

“Perdi a produção, cera, mel, pólen, toda uma cadeia de produtos”, disse Gandhy Almeida, morador de Ribeira do Pombal, que teve 27 colmeias atingidas.

INVESTIGAÇÃO

O Ibama (Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis) informou que os órgãos de defesa agropecuária estaduais já tomaram providências, “uma vez que se trata de mortandade de abelhas manejadas principalmente para produção de mel”.

O instituto informou ainda que tem atuado na reanálise das condições de registro dos produtos à base de Fipronil, em um procedimento chamado de reavaliação ambiental, tendo em vista justamente os fortes indícios de seus efeitos danosos às abelhas.

“É necessário destacar a importância de que os usuários desses produtos sigam as instruções aprovadas […] Desde 2012, o Ibama proibiu a aplicação por aeronaves de diversos produtos associados à mortandade de abelhas, incluindo aqueles contendo Fipronil. Vale destacar que mesmo as condições hoje aprovadas estão sob investigação e novos estudos e dados podem mostrar a necessidade da imposição de novas restrições”, diz o órgão.

O promotor Adriano Nunes disse que o Ministério Público requisitou informações das entidades ligadas ao tema e que, diante das informações da mortandade de abelhas em Ribeira do Pombal, verificará a possibilidade de uma atuação em nível regional para identificar a causa das mortes e os responsáveis.
