nnnnO Ministério da Defesa de Taiwan anunciou hoje ter detectado 33 caças e dez navios de guerra do exército chinês nas proximidades da ilha.
nnnnDoze aviões atravessaram o espaço aéreo da ilha pelo que as Forças Armadas de Taiwan monitoraram a situação e responderam com o destacamento de aviões, navios e sistemas de mísseis terrestres, informou o Ministério da Defesa na rede social Twitter.
nnnnA escalada das tensões na região começou, em agosto passado, com a viagem à ilha da então presidente da Câmara dos Representantes dos Estados Unidos Nancy Pelosi, e agravou-se depois da visita da líder de Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen, aos EUA, onde se reuniu com vários congressistas norte-americanos, apesar dos avisos de Pequim.
nnnnA China e Taiwan vivem autonomamente desde 1949, quando o governo nacionalista da então República da China se refugiou na ilha, depois da vitória do Partido Comunista Chinês na guerra civil.
nnnnO regime de Pequim considera Taiwan uma província rebelde e ameaça tomá-la pela força se a ilha, com cerca de 24 milhões de habitantes, declarar formalmente a independência.
